Grayscale Project - "Euglena Zielona" (Euglena viridis) -- Chiptune Visualization / Atari SAP

*** PLEASE, WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY FOR PROPER AUDIO! *** So, I decided to take a look at all the separate channels of some chiptune music at once. Thought it might look cool, since those waveforms are usually so pretty. I quickly put together a script to create this video. We see here 8 channels. Each channel has a pan value (left or right), and I chose their position accordingly. I suggest you watch this in high-quality mode, at least for proper audio. This video has a lame naive timbre-capture algorithm: it just finds the first zero-crossing and locks it to the left side of the screen. This way you see waveforms aligned to each other - at least most of the time. A decent algorithm is trickier than I thought. Until then, have another one. YouTube needs more chiptune anyway. "Euglena Zielona" (literally, green euglena) is the Polish name for Euglena viridis, a species of green, algal protozoan. The beginning of the song was clearly inspired by this microscopic watery world. Nice theme for a tune, I say. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Grayscale Project is an awesome Atari 8-bit music collaboration from Poland.
